Team building days are one of those things that have been utilised by companies for many years. Whether it be paintballing in the woods, problem solving in a field or going on a corporate cookery day, team building is more popular than ever before. Buy why are they considered so important? And why should a company invest time and money in making them happen?
Camaraderie – people are usually pushed together and given tasks to complete by working together as team during these team building days. However, because these are usually light-hearted and fun events, people dont mind being pushed together so much and bonding starts to happen with people realising it and without the pressure of deadlines or office politics.
Leadership team building events often allow people who are not usually in charge at work to take the reins and direct their teams. This not only aids the development of their leadership skills but also gives them an insight into what it actually means to be a leader. A result of this is more empathy towards the people working both above and below them and also aids communication skills
Humour – Your more than likely to have a real laugh during these activities. Taking everyone away from the working environment and into a more informal and relaxed atmosphere will likely let me people relax and show their sense of humour. Colleges can start to learn much more about each other on a personal level and begin to joke with one another. Also, the stories that come from the event circulate for weeks afterwards and can easily lighten the mood at the office every time someone brings it up
It is worth bearing in mind that the benefits of the day do not stop at the end of the event but continues to develop relationships and skills even when everyone is back at work. It will give workforce something to really look forward to as well if you build them up enough.
