UEFA Euro 2012 Logo Released

The logo for the Uefa Euro 2012 games has been released this week in Kiev, capital city of Ukraine. With Poland as a co-host, Ukraine will be holding the 2012 sporting event across 4 of it’s cities. The logo has been design by Brandia Central, an experienced Portugueselogo design company. Futurebrand were also involved with the creation of the logo by helping with strategy and creative direction. Along with the design also came a release video which you can see at the top of the post.

Futurebrand began the design process by contacting fans, TV stations and football federations to find out what they thought the tournament stood for. Out of those groups, over 16,000 people were asked the question “What is unique about the competition and the host countries?”.

Both of the custom logo design companies that were involved in the creation of the logo are not new to design logos for the football tournament. Futurebrand have been involved with Uefa since 2006 as well as other leagues including the Champions League and the Europa League. As for Brandia Central, the head of logo design, Helder Pombinho, lead a team to design the Euro 2004 logo.

As seen in the launch video, the tagline that will accompany the logo will be ‘Creating History Together’. This was created because this will be the first time that the Uefa Euro tournament has been hosted in central and east Europe.

This logo, with the tagline, will now tour the 8 host cities across the two countries. Some of the cities include Pozan, Warsaw and Wroclaw in Poland, and Lviv, Donetsk and Kiev in Ukraine.

Although no price details have yet been released for this logo, I assume it’s not going to be as high as some other sports logos. The London 2012 Olympics logo which was released earlier this year was said to cost around £400,000 to build, it’s already faced a great deal of criticism for it’s simple and child like design.
